N (cried): Give me a red rose, and I will sing you my sweetest song.
The white Tree (shook its head): My roses are white, as white as snow, but go to my brother tree, and perhaps he will give you what you want. (The Nightingale flew over to the Rose-tree.
N: Give me a red rose, and I will sing you my sweetest song

The Tree3 (shook its head): My roses are red, as red as apple, but the winter has chilled my veins(冻坏我的血管), and the frost(霜) has nipped my buds(摧毁我的花蕾), and the storm has broken my branches(枝干), and I shall have no roses at all this year.
N: One red rose is all I want, only one red rose! Is there no way to solve?
The tree: There is a way, but it is so terrible, I can't tell you.
N: Tell it to me, I am not afraid.
The tree3: If you want a red rose, you must singing at moonlight, and stain(染) it with your heart's-blood. At the same time ,you must sing to me with your breast against a thorn(胸膛顶住一根刺). She swept over the garden like a shadow, and like a shadow she sailed through the grove.) (Curtains fall)

Chapter 4 (The young Student was still lying on the grass, where she had left him, and the tears were not yet dry in his beautiful eyes.)
N: Be happy, be happy; you shall have your red rose All I ask you in return is that you will be a true lover.
The Oak-tree (whispered): Sing me one last song, I shall feel very lonely when you are gone.
Ss: the song is very good, but doses she gets feeling? I don’t know. and everybody knows that the arts are selfish.
(And when the Moon shone in the heavens the Nightingale flew to the Rose-tree, and set her breast against the thorn. All night long she sang with her breast against the thorn, and the cold crystal Moon leaned down(俯下身)and listened. All night long she sang, and the thorn went deeper and deeper into her breast, and her life-blood ebbed away from her.)
The tree 3(cried): Press closer, little Nightingale, or the Day will come before the rose is finished. (So the Nightingale pressed closer against the thorn, and louder and louder grew her song, for she sang of the birth of passion in the soul of a man and a maid(因为她歌唱着一对成年男女心中诞生的激情).)
The tree 3: Press closer, little Nightingale, or the Day will come before the rose is finished. (So the Nightingale pressed closer against the thorn, and the thorn touched her heart, and a fierce pang of pain shot through her. Bitter, bitter was the pain, and wilder and wilder grew her song, for she sang of the Love that is perfected by Death, of the Love that dies not in the tomb. (Then she gave one last burst of music. The white Moon heard it, and she forgot the dawn, and lingered on in the sky. The red rose heard it, and it trembled (颤抖)all over with ecstasy(狂喜), and opened its petals to the cold morning air. Echo(回声) bore it to her purple caverns (紫色洞穴)in the hills, and woke the sleeping shepherds (牧童)from their dreams. It floated through the reeds(芦苇) of the river, and they carried its message to the sea.)
The tree(cried): Look, look! the rose is finished now (but the Nightingale made no answer, for she was lying dead in the long grass, with the thorn in her heart. And at noon the Student opened his window and looked out.)
Ss: Why, what a wonderful piece of luck! Here is a red rose! I have never seen any rose like it in all my life. It is so beautiful that I am sure it has a long Latin name (Then he put on his hat, and ran up to the Professor's house with the rose in his hand.)

Chapter 5 (The daughter of the Professor was sitting in the doorway (门口)winding blue silk on a reel(在纺车上纺着蓝色的丝线), and her little dog was lying at her feet.)
Ss: You said that you would dance with me if I brought you a red rose. Here is the reddest rose in all the world. You will wear it to-night next your heart, and as we dance together it will tell you how I love you.
G(frowned): I am afraid it will not go with my dress, and, besides, the Chamberlain’s nephew has sent me some real jewels, and everybody knows that jewels cost far more than flowers.
Ss(said angrily): Well, upon my word, you are very ungrateful (He threw the rose into the street, where it fell into the gutter, and a cart-wheel went over it.)
The girl: Ungrateful! I tell you what, you are very rude; and, after all, who are you? Only a Student. Why, I don’t believe you have even got silver buckles to your shoes as the Chamberlain’s nephew has . (she got up from her chair and went into the house.)
Ss: What I a silly thing Love is! "It is not half as useful as Logic(逻辑), for it does not prove anything, and it is always telling one of things that are not going to happen, and making one believe things that are not true. In fact, it is quite unpractical, and, as in this age to be practical is everything, I shall go back to Philosophy and study Metaphysics(形而上学). (So he returned to his room and pulled out a great sty book, and began to read.)

The Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos), also known as Rufous and Common Nightingale, is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher, Muscicapidae. It belongs to a group of more terrestrial species, often called chats.

It is a migratory insectivorous species breeding in forest and scrub in Europe and south-west Asia. The distribution is more southerly than the very closely related Thrush Nightingale Luscinia luscinia. It nests on the ground within or next to dense bushes. It winters in southern Africa. At least in the Rhineland (Germany), the breeding habitat of nightingales agrees with a number of geographical parameters.

The Nightingale is slightly larger than the European Robin, at 15-16.5 cm length. It is plain brown above except for the reddish tail. It is buff to white below. Sexes are similar.

Nightingales are named so because they frequently sing at night as well as ring the day. The name has been used for well over 1,000 years, being highly recognizable even in its Anglo-Saxon form - 'nihtingale'. It means 'night songstress'. Early writers assumed the female sang; in fact, it is the male. The male nightingale is known for his singing, to the extent that human singers are sometimes admiringly referred to as nightingales; the song is loud, with an impressive range of whistles, trills and gurgles. Its song is particularly noticeable at night because few other birds are singing. This is why its name (in several languages) includes "night". Only unpaired males sing regularly at night, and nocturnal song is likely to serve attracting a mate. Singing at dawn, ring the hour before sunrise, is assumed to be important in defending the bird's territory. Nightingales sing even more loudly in urban or near-urban environments, in order to overcome the background noise. The most characteristic feature of the song is a loud whistling crescendo, absent from the song of Thrush Nightingale. It has a frog-like alarm call.

The eastern subspecies L. m. hafizi and L. m. africana have paler upperparts and a stronger face-pattern, including a pale supercilium.

玫瑰 rose

A rose is a perennial flowering shrub or vine of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae, that contains over 100 species. The species form a group of erect shrubs, and climbing or trailing plants, with stems that are often armed with sharp thorns. Most are native to Asia, with smaller numbers of species native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. Natives, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and fragrance.

The leaves are alternate and pinnately compound, with sharply toothed oval-shaped leaflets. The plants fleshy edible fruit is called a rose hip. Rose plants range in size from tiny, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach 20 metres in height. Species from different parts of the world easily hybridize, which has given rise to the many types of garden roses.

The name originates from Latin rosa, borrowed through Oscan from colonial Greek in southern Italy: rhodon (Aeolic form: wrodon), from Aramaic wurrdā, from Assyrian wurtinnu, from Old Iranian *warda (cf. Armenian vard, Avestan warda, Sogdian ward, Parthian wâr).

Attar of rose is the steam-extracted essential oil from rose flowers that has been used in perfumes for centuries. Rose water, made from the rose oil, is widely used in Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine. Rose hips are occasionally made into jam, jelly, and marmalade, or are brewed for tea, primarily for their high Vitamin C content. They are also pressed and filtered to make rose hip syrup. Rose hips are also used to proce Rose hip seed oil, which is used in skin procts and some makeup procts.

THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE

"She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red roses," cried the young Student, "but in all my garden there is no red rose。"

“她说如果我给她带来红玫瑰,她会和我跳舞的,”年轻的学生喊道,“但我的花园里没有红玫瑰。”

From her nest in the oak tree the Nightingale heard him, and she looked out through the leaves and wondered。

"No red rose in all my garden!" he cried, and his beautiful eyes filled with tears. "Ah, on what little things does happiness depend!

“我的花园里没有红玫瑰!”他哭了,他那双美丽的眼睛里充满了泪水。”啊,幸福取决于什么小事!

I have read all that the wise men have written, and all the secrets of philosophy are mine, yet for want (没有) of a red rose is my life made wretched。"

"Here at last is a true lover," said the Nightingale. "Night after night have I sung of him。

“终于有了一个真正的情人,”夜莺说。我夜以继日地歌颂他。

though I knew him not:night after night have I told his story to the stars and now I see him。

His hair is dark as the hyacinth(风信子)-- blossom,and his lips are red as the rose of his desire; but passion has made his face like pale ivory;

他的头发黑得像风信子一样开放,他的嘴唇红得像他渴望的玫瑰;

and sorrow has set her seal upon his brow。"
