大花蕙兰，学名Cymbidium，又称喜姆比兰或蝉兰，属于兰科兰属植物。原产于印度、缅甸、泰国、越南和中国南部等地区，是兰属中一些附生性较强的大花种和以这些原种为亲本的人工杂交种。大花蕙兰是对兰属中通过人工杂交培育出的色泽艳丽、花朵硕大的品种的统称。兰属植物约有48种，目前用作杂交亲本的原生种有近20种，主要是大花的附生类和少量的地生类。大花蕙兰自1889年英国培育出第一个品种以来，在20世纪40年代，欧美也选育出大量种间和品种间杂种。至今，大花蕙兰的栽培品种已有近2万个，在中国国内外市场十分走俏，成为兰花中的庞大品种群。
大花蕙兰是多年生附生草本植物，假鳞茎粗壮，属合轴性兰花。假鳞茎上通常有12～14节，每个节上均有隐芽。隐芽根据植株年龄和环境条件不同可以形成花芽或叶芽。叶片2列，长披针形，叶片长度、宽度因品种而异。叶色受光照强弱影响很大，可由黄绿色至深绿色。大花蕙兰的根系发达，根多为圆柱状，肉质，粗壮肥大。花序较长，小花数一般大于10朵，品种间有较大差异。花被片6，外轮3枚为萼片，花瓣状，内轮为花瓣，下方的花瓣特化为唇瓣。大花蕙兰果实为蒴果，其形状、大小等常因亲本或原生种不同而有较大的差异。种子十分细小，种子内的胚通常发育不完全，且几乎无胚乳，在自然条件下很难萌发。其中绿色品种多带香味。花大型，直径6～10厘米，花色有白、黄、绿、紫红或带有紫褐色斑纹。
大花蕙兰的生产地主要是日本、韩国和中国，澳大利亚及美国等。大花蕙兰的栽培品种有切花品种和盆栽品种，按颜色又可分为红色系列、粉色系列、绿色系列、黄色系列、橙色系列、咖啡色系列、复色系列等。常见品种有C.Lucky Gloria ‘Aguri’、C.Great katy ‘Chartreuse’、C.
