【影评】《遗愿清单》：当悲剧遇上喜剧（香港著名影评人）
有种说法是，最上乘的喜剧是将喜剧与悲剧的距离拉到最近。《遗愿清单/玩转生前事》做到了。这部讲述两个男性间的情谊的影片玩的是黑色幽默，藉由杰克·尼科尔森和摩根·弗里曼的表演，做出了搞笑又不恶俗的难得效果。

《玩转生前事》（The Bucket List）的最大魅力，肯定是来自两名男主角，杰克·尼科尔森 （Jack Nicholson）和摩根·弗里曼（Morgan Freeman）的演出。就跟他们的年龄一样，两人在影片里的表现，不独不分伯仲、旗鼓相当，而且一唱一和、互补长短，一言一语、一举手一投足之间，简直就是高手过招、识英雄重英雄。所有最伟大的导演都会跟你说，演员是一部电影的命脉（是的，甚至包括了坚持不要演员“演出”，而导致他们表面看似“木口木面”的罗伯特·布列松〔Robert Bresson〕），因为是他们把剧本上没有生命的文字，变成有血有肉的人物。

上世纪六七十年代，百老汇和好莱坞一度十分流行一种“扭计冤家”（oddcouple）式的处境喜剧（始作俑者是舞台剧作家尼尔·西蒙〔Neil Simon〕）—两个性格南辕北辙的人物（通常是男性），被逼共处一室或合作完成一项任务，开始时水火不容，狗咬狗骨，最后终于做了难兄难弟。换言之，它的主题其实是男性间的情谊（male bonding），说不定还带点暧暧昧昧的同性恋意味（戏谑成分占多）。《玩》片可说是这个类型喜剧的继承者：尼科尔森的艾华与弗里曼的卡特，一个是富可敌国的有钱佬，一个是出身自劳动阶级的修车技工；一个狂妄任性，一个诚实忠直；一个结过4 次婚但却连女儿也不肯相见，一个却儿孙满堂。艾华以为说服了卡特趁临死前陪他尽情放纵一番的时候，却其实是后者领着他走上了救赎之旅（救赎，是占了八成以上的好莱坞剧本的指定主题）。So far so conventional（循规蹈矩）。
影片有趣的是它在题材（死亡）和形式（喜剧）上的对立。有说最上乘的喜剧是将喜剧与悲剧的距离拉到最接近。《玩》片里有一段戏，是两名主角忍俊不禁捧腹大笑，最后笑到热泪盈眶。作为观众的我虽未至于潸然泪下，但也未至于不无所感（尤其是到了结局）。罗杰·艾伯特（Roger Ebert），北美最流行的影评人，以自己患鼻咽癌的经验出发，觉得影片跟末期癌症病人开玩笑，是不道德的行为。他大概忘记了在喜剧里有一种叫“黑色幽默”的手法，可以容许作者拿最不应该嘲弄的东西来调侃或戏谑一番。我觉得《玩》片在这层面上是成功的。你可以挑剔它不真实（两人几乎没有所有癌症病人的形容消瘦和变化，也没有太大的痛楚），但喜剧从来就容许夸张（它是放大了的现实）。影片惹笑，又不流于恶搞或恶俗，夫复何求？

《玩》片的导演叫鲍勃·雷纳（Bob Reiner），电视演员出身，擅演喜剧，上世纪80 年代当上导演后，也擅拍喜剧，但其他的类型电影也有涉猎；可能没有很强烈的个人风格或特色，但却有着不错的执行效率，总是颇能做到雅俗共赏的地步；最著名的作品有《摇滚万万岁》（This is Spinal Tap，1984，一部在今日已被推为经典的“仿摇滚音乐纪录/ 喜剧片”）、《伴我同行》（Stand by Me，1986，史蒂芬·金第一部非恐怖类的电影佳作）、《90 男欢女爱》（When SallyMet Sally，1989）、《危情十日》（Misery，1990） 和《义海雄风》（A Few GoodMen，1992）等。但自上世纪90 年代后期开始，却再也没有很受注目的作品。从牌面上看，《玩》片本应可以是他的翻身之作。不过影片在美国本土的风评不好，大部分评论都不接受它的黑色题材。创作生涯类似鲍勃·雷纳的导演，好莱坞有不少例子。也就是说，在一段辉煌的日子后，却又忽然变得平平无奇，以致逐渐黯淡下来。究其原因，除了机遇难料外，我猜最主要的可能就是他们其实都只是执行者而非真正的作者（缺乏个人的视野和透视力），甚至在很大程度上很依赖（由片厂或经理人公司提供给他们的）剧本。于是风光过后，又或是一两次错误的选择后，人们都不怎样能记得他们。

形成这样的起伏可能还有另一原因：modesty（谦虚）。这是一个优点但也是缺点。因为modest，不好大喜功、不不自量力，所以竞争力较弱（相反例子有罗恩·霍华德Ron Howard），但也因为modest，所以恰如其分，平稳中见实力。《玩转生前事》最能说明这个情况。正如前述，影片最吸引人的地方，就是两名炉火纯青的演员，剧本写得工整娴熟，对白生动，作为导演如果也争着抢镜，反而会造成破坏。雷纳的好处，正是稳稳正正，但这却不表示他什么也不做——很多场戏表面上虽然好像只是平板地来回对剪，但分镜却相当准确利落。艾华与卡特由针锋相对到同病相怜的那段montage（蒙太奇），便处理得经济简洁。影片的大部分场面都带着这份从容的自信，两个老鬼之间互相交戏时流露出来的那份sophistication（世故），不是老牌导演是不会拍得出这种味道的。

当然，这份低调与含蓄，放在今日，注定又会被讥为过气、不合时宜。也罢，《玩转生前事》给了我十分愉悦的97 分钟，我是很心满意足的。只要想想看，其实时下没有很多的电影能够做到这地步，你便可能会懂得appreciate（欣赏）它多一点
