提示：湖指杭州西湖。湖光山色相映，風景綺麗。全詩先寫「晴」，次寫「雨」，最後兩句結合起來概括，而用新奇的妙語贊美西湖無時不美的迷人景色。
將西湖喻為美女西施，已成千古定論。湖因詩而名「西子湖」，可證也。
然而明人唐宜久，有一文，謂「昔人以西湖比西子，人皆知其為譽西子也。而西湖之病，則寓乎其間乎？可見古人比類之工，寓諷之隱：不言西湖無有丈夫氣，但借其聲稱以譽天下之殊色，而人自不察耳。」（《明小品三百篇》）黑、白轉色，褒、貶易位，他從詩里看到的是「西湖無有丈夫氣」。
莫非此公讀詩，喜歡頭朝下、腳朝上「拿大頂」，何以其所見翻了個兒？
因喜「山色空？雨亦奇」句，而畫其意。想及此，附記之。

詩意：
在晴日的陽光照射下，西湖水波盪漾，閃爍著粼粼的金光。風景秀麗；在陰雨的天氣里，山巒在細雨中迷濛一片，別有一種奇特的美。如果要把西湖比作美女西施，那麼晴朗的西湖就如濃妝的西施，而雨天的西湖就像淡妝的西施，都是同樣的美麗無比。
